Every check returns three numbers. Each one answers a different question, so read them together.
0 to 100
How much of the outlet's authority this article kept for your brand. Think of it like a domain authority score, but for one article and one brand.
Under 12 Weak. 12 to 24 Modest. 25 to 39 Solid. 40 and up Strong.
−100 to +100
Whether the piece is for your brand or against it. We keep it out of the headline number on purpose. A hostile front-page story has high authority and negative valence, and both are true. Read it next to Authority to see the whole picture.
0 to 100
How likely AI engines are to read this piece and quote it for your brand.
The method
Article Authority comes from two parts: the ceiling the outlet sets, and how much of that ceiling the article keeps. Then we adjust for format.
First, the outlet. We blend its link authority, from Open PageRank, with its popularity, from its Tranco rank. Together they set the most an article on that site can be worth. A brilliant story on a small site can't outscore the site it ran on, and a passing mention on a big one won't inherit all of its weight.
Next, how much of that ceiling this article keeps for your brand. Two stories on the same site can land very differently. Four pillars decide it.
Placement, 45%
Is the story about your brand, or are you a passing mention? We check the headline and opening, whether you're quoted, linked and pictured, and how many competitors share the page.
People, 15%
The journalist's track record, the seniority of the spokesperson quoted, and whether independent voices appear alongside yours.
Persuasion, 20%
How the article describes your brand. Does it inform, endorse, promote or critique?
Propagation, 20%
Freshness, pickups by other outlets, and the public shares we can see.
Not all coverage is earned the same way. Wire and press-release distribution counts at a fifth. Syndicated copies count at half. Self-authored and opinion pieces count at 80%. Genuine earned news counts in full.
These weights are editorial. This is version one, and we will retune them against real outcomes. We'd rather say so here than pretend otherwise.
Our rules
A score is only useful if you can trust what sits behind it. So we hold to four rules.

Straight answers
Usually three reasons. The outlet sets a ceiling, and even big mastheads don't sit at 100. Format discounts apply: if the story ran on the wire or as a syndicated copy, it counts at a fifth or a half. And the honest answer: in version one, scores cluster low. A 37 is Solid. Compare it with your other placements, not with 100.
They answer different questions. Authority is how much of the outlet's authority this article kept for your brand. GEO Impact is how likely AI engines are to read and quote this piece for your brand. A piece can do well on one and not the other, so we show both.
When a paywall shows us only a teaser, we say so on the result. Anything we can't see reads unavailable and carries no weight, rather than a guess. Paste the article text and we'll score the full piece.
Yes. Results are shareable for 30 days, and you don't need an email to check or share.
No. AVE prices coverage as if it were an ad. Article Authority scores what the article did for your brand, and says what it couldn't see.
Every number comes with the reasons behind it, so the next time someone asks what a story was worth, you can show your working.
